A Thanksgiving Note From Me to You

Every year when Thanksgiving arrives, I feel that familiar blend of excitement, comfort, and a little sparkle of celebration. It also happens to be my birthday week, which means I get to enjoy the extra treat of free coffees, surprise discounts, and all those small goodies businesses send to your inbox. It is a lighthearted reminder that sometimes joy shows up in the simplest places.

Thanksgiving itself has always been my favorite holiday. At our house, we host a small gathering for family and the day begins with our favorite traditions. The Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade plays in the background while we finish the last bits of prepping the table and rotating dishes through the oven. There is usually a bustling mix of the oven dance timing around the kitchen as we juggle the turkey, keep sides warm, and final cooking for a well timed “Thanksgiving Dinner is Ready.”

A few sips of eggnog tends to find it’s way to the lips a bit before that announcement!

Our family recipes are part of what makes the day feel like home. The Green Chili Cornbread Stuffing that brings a little personality to the table from our days in New Mexico. Grandma Apple’s apple pie and Grandma Posey’s chess pie that always taste like memory and love. These dishes have a way of grounding the whole day even if everything else feels a little busy. And later, when the Friends Thanksgiving episodes come on, the laughter brings the final touch of tradition.

Somewhere in all the craziness, I am reminded of something important. We work hard to create a beautiful holiday, but the real beauty is already there. It exists in the people around us, the rituals we repeat, and the small quiet moments we forget to appreciate.

As you head into your own holiday week, here are three simple ways to bring more joy and ease into the days ahead.

3 Simple Ways to Survive and Savor Thanksgiving Week

1. Make one thing easier than last year.

Choose a single task to simplify whether it is grabbing a premade side, asking someone to bring dessert, or using easy clean up options after the meal. Small adjustments can create big breathing room.

The win: More connection, less pressure.

2. Create a five minute gratitude pause.

Set a timer and list or share three things you are grateful for this year. You can do this alone or invite your family to join in.

The win: It shifts the energy of the whole day and brings everyone back to what matters.

3. Start one tiny tradition that is just for you.

Light a favorite candle before guests arrive, step outside for a moment of quiet, or save yourself a private slice of pie for later.

The win: You claim a moment that fills your own cup and helps you stay centered.

A Final Thought for the Week

My hope for you this Thanksgiving is that you allow yourself to enjoy it fully. Not the picture perfect version, but the real one with its love, noise, laughter, and imperfect beauty. Choose one small action that makes the week feel lighter. A simplified task. A breath of gratitude. A tiny moment that reminds you that you matter too.
